Richard James

Richard has been Chair of Governors at Hopelands Preparatory School since October 2006. Prior to joining the school, Richard worked as CEO and General Manager of the NHS for 27 years and, more recently, Foundation Secretary to 3 large independent schools in Warwick for 3 years. Richard lives locally with his wife and has four grown up children. He is also the Chair of Governors to a local large State Grammar School in Gloucester.

Tina Benson

Responsible for Health and Safety and EYFS

After graduating from University, Tina moved into a trainee accountant role with the NHS. She spent the first 12 years of her career working for the NHS in both provider and commissioner roles. To gain more commercial experience, Tina moved to a global outsourcing company where she worked as a Finance Manager for 2 years. More recently Tina has moved to work for a local charity. Tina has maintained her contact with the health sector and is currently an appointed executive member of a not for profit organisation that researches and publishes mental health guidance. Tina has two daughters, one of whom currently attend Hopelands.



Peter Roberts

Responsible for Teaching and Learning

After moving on from a business career, Peter commenced teaching Mathematics at the King Edward VI School in Stratford upon Avon and was at the school for six years, during which he was also appointed Head of KS3. After a very happy period there Peter was then appointed in 2001 as Head of Mathematics at The Crypt School, Gloucester where he stayed until retiring in July, 2014. His previous planning skills acquired in business enabled Peter to lead the Mathematics department and critically analyse performance in order to enable improvements.

Colin Hall-Tomkin

Responsible for Finance and Administration

Colin read Economics at University College, Swansea, before joining one of the high street banks on their Graduate Training Scheme. He spent 14 years working in the banking sector, latterly as a business and corporate bank manager in the Bristol area. Since 2005, he has been the Client Management and Banking Director for one of the UK's largest insurance and healthcare brokers and his role includes arranging finance for their clients, as well as overseeing a number of client focused initiatives that the company undertakes.

Nevila Kallfa

Responsible for Safeguarding

Nevila graduated from Medical School in Albania and pursued further studies in public health medicine. Her international experience extends from working with children and families in deprived and remote communities (during the Kosovar crisis) to supporting school systems to improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable children (Kentwood and Forest Hills Public Schools in Grand Rapids Michigan).  Nevila has worked for the National Health Service since 2004 overseeing public health budgets and initiatives (including leading on the children’s public health portfolio for Gloucestershire). Nevila is currently working for Public Health England and her work is focused on supporting improvements in health care through supporting the Women and Children Programme of Care Board and its Clinical reference Groups.
