Verbal Reasoning

The majority of our children sit for a place at a local grammar school. An offer to attend one of these schools is gained through performing well in two verbal reasoning (VR) selection tests.

These tests are difficult and often a new experience for the child. Preparation is therefore essential to ensure that children perform their best. Of course, preparing for these tests will not make a child more intelligent but experience has shown that children can improve their performance by up to 15% with practice.

We are very fortunate to have the teaching services of one of the county’s foremost experts on VR and, as a result, our pupils have an unrivalled record of success in gaining places at grammar schools.

VR has been part of our school curriculum since April 2004. Years 3 and 4 have a 40 minute lesson every week whilst Years 5 and 6 benefit from an hour per week.
