Dance

Children from Years 3-6 receive 1 hour of dance tuition per week during lesson time, as well as the opportunity to participate in an after-school dance club. The class work is linked to the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) with opportunities for extension for our able dancers.

Our dance teacher, Mrs Karen Perrins, works for Gloucestershire Dance, an organisation affiliated to the Education Authority designed to deliver specialist dance teaching in schools throughout the county. Our aim is to find the dancer in everyone.

At Hopelands Preparatory School we encourage all children to participate in dance. As a school we take part in the Annual Dance Festival as well as putting on our own productions. In 2006 our work was selected for a gala performance at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham.

We have taken part in an integrated dance programme in which Hopelands has been linked to a local special school. In March the children will perform at the Annual Dance Festival.

At Hopelands the children are very enthusiastic about dance and enjoy the opportunity to contribute their ideas and choreography. At the end of the academic year, an arts cup is presented as recognition of the importance of dance within the school.
